Power Cuts & No Power

Getting your power back on, safely

A power cut can be a problem on the local network or a fault inside your property. The quickest first check is whether your neighbours and the street lights still have power. If the whole street is out, the problem is with the network, and you can report it by calling 105, the free national power cut number.

If it's just your property, or only some of your circuits are off, the cause is usually in your installation. A tripped RCD or breaker that won't reset, a failed main switch or a damaged cable can all cut the power.

Our electricians test the supply, the consumer unit and each circuit in turn to find the cause, then repair it and restore your power safely.

Areas we cover: Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Trafford, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside and Wigan, across Greater Manchester.

Power Cuts & No Power: your questions answered

How do I know if it's a power cut or a fault in my home?

If your neighbours and the street lights are also off, it's likely a network power cut, so call 105. If only your property, or only some of your circuits, have lost power, the fault is probably in your installation and you should call us.

Should I keep resetting the breaker?

No. If a breaker or RCD trips again as soon as you reset it, leave it off. It's switching off for a reason, and repeatedly resetting it can make the fault worse.

Can you get my power back the same day?

In most cases, yes. We aim to be with you within 30 to 90 minutes, and most faults that cause a loss of power can be found and fixed on the first visit.
